[Podcast] The Role of a Developmental Editing in Book Writing

Aug 17, 2020

by Dave Goetz and Melissa Parks

There are at least three kinds of editing that you will need for your book:

1) developmental editing;

2) line editing; and,

3) proofing (some might call this "copy editing").

Aspects of Developmental Editing

In this inaugural episode of our Journey Sixty6 podcast, The Role of Developmental Editing, we do a deep dive into this confusing subject.

One aspect of this kind of edit is to help you with the overall all structure of your book. And it starts with your first chapter - making sure you hook your reader:

Is the promise of your book clearly laid out?

Is there a reason to keep reading?

Another aspect is voice: Are you able to develop your voice as you write? Are you avoiding industry jargon and finding ways to write in ways that are fresh and uniquely you?

Still another element is tension: Does the book continue to pull the reader along? How can you improve the stories that you tell?
